Forest Camp

July 15 - July 18

This summer, we are partnering once again with Maine Outdoor School (MOS) to host Forest Camp at the Machias River Preserve for youth ages 10-13. Campers will be able to explore and learn about the forest ecosystem through hands-on activities and games.

Activities will range from active scavenger hunts to mindful journaling, providing campers the opportunity to connect with each other and the natural world. Camp will become a place for discovery as we trek down the trail, building our hiking skills and engaging in thoughtful dialogue and hands-on lessons that will spark imaginations while encouraging critical thinking.

If your child loves exploring nature or wants to grow their confidence outdoors, this camp is for them! We’ll learn about the forest creatures, grow stewardship skills, engage in scientific inquiry, and get messy as we step into leadership roles and into nature.

After camp last year, camper Kayleigh stated her favorite part of camp were the “Skits, drawing, and games” and camper Serenity noted that she learned new skills such as “Preparing for a long hike, using field guides for identification, Leave-No-Trace practices, and how to be leader”.

Camp will be held daily July 15-18. Camp is FREE but there are limited spots and advance registration is required. Registration will be run on a lottery basis to give all families a fair chance at a spot in our popular camp. Registration for the lottery is open April 1st – June 3rd.

  • Note pre-registration does not guarantee a spot until you hear back with confirmation.
  • Confirmation will be sent shortly after June 3rd.
  • If your child is not selected via the lottery process their name will automatically go onto an alternate list and you will be contacted if a participant withdraws and spot becomes available.
