Downeast Coastal Conservancy (DCC) is excited to launch the search for its next Executive Director.

Based in Machias, Maine, DCC is a nationally accredited land trust dedicated to conserving and stewarding the distinctive landscapes, waters, wildlife habitat, and communities of Downeast Maine. Through land conservation, stewardship, community partnerships, and public engagement, DCC works to ensure that the natural resources and character of Washington County are protected for future generations.

This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and mission-driven leader to help guide the organization through its next chapter of growth, strategic leadership, and conservation impact.

The Executive Director serves as DCC’s chief executive leader and works closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners to advance the organization’s mission and long-term strategic priorities. The next Executive Director will play an important role in:

  • leading and supporting a collaborative staff team,
  • strengthening organizational systems and sustainability,
  • Advancing resource development and community relationships,
  • supporting strong governance practices and Board partnership,
  • and helping shape the future of conservation and stewardship in Downeast Maine.

DCC recognizes that strong organizational leadership can come from a variety of professional backgrounds and experiences. While conservation and land trust experience is valued, the organization is equally interested in candidates who bring strong leadership, relationship-building, management, communication, and strategic thinking skills.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for the position is $80,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience. DCC offers a competitive benefits package including employer-paid health and vision insurance, retirement benefits, paid time off, and federal holidays.
