Coastal Bird Walk
August 27, 2021 @ 7:00 am - 8:30 am
This is event is full. We are no longer accepting registrations. Please join us for another event this season.
Join us for an early morning bird walk led by local birder Woody Gilles. We’ll explore the coastal habitats of Mowry Beach Preserve in Lubec, walking along the beach and boardwalk in search of warblers and shorebirds. We encourage participants to bring their own binoculars, but DCC does have a limited number available for participants to borrow if needed. This event will be approximately 1.5 hours in length.
Woody Gilles has had an interest in birds since his mother introduced him to backyard birding at an early age. When he was in junior high, he tagged along with his older brother who was taking a field ornithology course in college. Woody is a retired Professor Emeritus from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY where he taught chemistry for thirty-five years. He was a member of the Hudson-Mohawk Bird Club and Massachusetts Audubon and a member of Fundy Audubon, a local chapter of Maine Audubon. Woody has birded in the Canadian Maritimes, Central America, Australia, and Europe. He has been interested in nature photography most of his adult life and has photographed birds wherever his travels take him. In 2017, he did a Washington County Big Year with a year-end total of 199 species.
