Description:
Pigeon Hill is the highest coastal property in Washington County with a summit elevation of 317 ft. The 1.8 mile trail system on the mountain features a figure-eight loop that allows hikers to reach the summit and return to the parking area without retracing their steps. Hikers can hike up the Historic Trail to the summit and return via the Summit Loop and Silver Mine Trails for the easiest hiking, best vistas, and evidence of Pigeon Hill’s human history. The Summit Loop and Silver Mine Trails provide the least steep route to and from the summit. Explore the Ledge Woods Trail for a more challenging and longer hike. It offers more views to the south and open woods with large maple trees along the edge of the western woods. Across the street from the parking lot, the Pigeon Hill Shore Trail begins next to the cemetery. This loop trail traverses through upland forests and provides access directly to the shore.
Trailhead Directions:
Coming west from Milbridge or east from Steuben on Route 1, turn south on Pigeon Hill Road Drive 4.5 miles to the trailhead parking area opposite an old cemetery.
