Hunting Permits
To place or use observation blinds, tree stands, or trail cameras on properties owned by Downeast Coastal Conservancy, hunters must receive a permit from DCC. To request a permit please email info@downeastcoastalconservancy.org.
Fire Policy
Campfires are prohibited on DCC properties unless: located in an authorized DCC campsite or by DCC-issued permit only in compliance with DCC’s goals and policies.
Furthermore:
- DCC does not hold jurisdiction over any great ponds (lakes or ponds over 10 acres) on our properties. No permits needed for fires on frozen great ponds.
- Campfire policies may vary from one property to another. Consult the DCC office and/or information posted on the property for additional details.
- Where required by Maine law, permits shall be obtained from the local or state fire authority for all open fires. Fires are not permitted on DCC properties unless otherwise permitted by DCC Staff.
To request a permit please email info@downeastcoastalconservancy.org.
Overnight Permission
Camping on DCC lands is only allowed in an authorized DCC campsite. Authorized campsites are offered “first-come, first served,” and are located at Orange River Conservation Area (two sites), Gilman Dam, Vining Lake Community Preserve, Sheep Island, and Tibbett Island. Each of the sites contains a picnic table, DCC signage, a box privy, and a firepit. No registration is necessary, but campers are required to obtain campfire permits for the site they are using by calling the Maine Forest Service in advance of their stay. Fires at Tibbett Island are permitted, but only below the high-water mark, and all fires must be extinguished and dispersed.
