For the upcoming summer, DCC has been selected as a host site for MCHT’s Richard G. Rockefeller Conservation Internship!

If you are interested in spending your summer learning about land conservation and stewardship in Downeast Maine then consider applying for this entry level position!

How it works: This program will place up to 10 Maine student interns with up to 10 different Maine land trusts and conservation organizations (one intern with each land trust). This is an entry level position, no experience required. Internship Duties may include but are not limited to trail work, working with volunteers, conservation easement monitoring, and other stewardship related projects.

DCC position description: DCC’s intern will assist the Stewardship Director in stewardship related activities, such as trail design and building, trail and grounds maintenance, helping to coordinate volunteer work groups, and assisting with annual property monitoring requirements for over 80 properties. Specific examples include trail building and installing signage at DCC’s Vining Lake Community Preserve, timber stand improvements, trail maintenance, and trail building at DCC’s Machias River Preserve, and assisting with monitoring DCC’s 80+ preserves and easements across Washington County. The intern will gain a better understanding of how a land trust operates, trail building and design, land management, community outreach, and other facets of non-profit operations. They will have a chance to network with professionals here in Washington County.

Wage: $12.50 per hour— free housing provided if needed

Requirements:
• Student in Maine (or some Maine connection) – undergraduate,
certificate program, or trade school student applications accepted
• Available June 7 to August 13
• Must be self-motivated, willing and able to work independently or as part of a team, willing to learn new skills
• Must have reliable transportation
