From now till early March, Downeast Coastal Conservancy (DCC) and the Machias Bay Chamber of Commerce invite the local community to head over to DCC’s Middle River Park Preserve in Machias to participate in our “Best in Snow” Winter Contests!

During this presentation, Hazel Stark, Maine Outdoor School Co-Founder, Naturalist Educator, and Registered Maine Guide, will introduce what phenology is, why tracking phenology observations is important, and what you should be on the lookout for this spring!

DCC's Vice President and Landscape Historian, Robin Pinto, will be leading a six-week Sunrise Senior College Course this Spring: Natural & Cultural Histories of our Community Lands: DCC Preserves and Their Values for You.

Morgan Ingalls, a wildlife technician at Acadia National Park, will discuss the background, study techniques, and current research in relation to bats of coastal Downeast Maine.

For one full year, Maine Master Naturalist Carol Leonard, sat on a rock weekly. The result is a nature journal, “The Pickerel Weed Marsh,” composed of 100 slides of her observations, illustrations and photographs through all four seasons.

Join CWI, and the Campobello Whale Rescue Team, as they discuss the current status of right whales, what’s being done to protect them and how fishermen, shipping companies, governments and scientists are coming together in common cause.
