Hike into History at the Homestead
November 6, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 pm
Join DCC for a fall hike to the historic Meadow Farm homestead at the Machias River Preserve led by DCC’s Vice President Robin Pinto. We will explore newly revealed remains of the farm owned by early Machias settler and Margaretta Battle participant, William Albee. Barn foundations, cellar holes, stone-lined wells, pasture walls, old roads, apple orchards, lilac bushes and an enormous elm tree at the Homestead site tell us about the men and women who lived in and worked this landscape over the past 240 years.
Meet at the Down East Sunrise Trail Parking Lot in Whitneyville (Off Middle Street – 44.71952, -67.52280) at 9am on Saturday, November 6th. The hike will cover 2.5 miles and last 2.5 hours. Please bring water and wear sturdy shoes.
