Description:
The Beaver Dam Stream Preserve is a 105-acre preserve bordering on 5,000’ of Beaver Dam Stream. A tributary to the East Machias River, Beaver Dam Stream is home to many native fish species including the endangered Atlantic salmon. Beaver Dam Stream has seen many habitat restoration projects within the watershed. On the mile-long trail at Beaver Dam Stream, signage at a couple of stops describes DCC’s important restoration work that has significantly improved the habitat for resident and migratory fish alike. The trail follows the river and loops into the woods along an old woods road. Be sure to bring the bug spray; a healthy stream means lots of bugs!
Trailhead Directions:
Traveling east on Route 9, the preserve is on the right, roughly 2.6 miles from the intersection of Route 192 and Route 9. Traveling west on Route 9, the preserve is on the left, roughly 1.5 miles from the Crawford Rest Stop on the East Machias River.
