Camping & Fires

Camping on DCC lands is only allowed at authorized DCC campsites. Authorized campsites are offered first come first serve and are located at:

Each of the sites contains a picnic table, DCC signage, a box privy, and a firepit. No registration is necessary. Campfires are only allowed in an authorized DCC firepit or by DCC issued permit in compliance with DCC’s goals and policies. Fires at Tibbett Island are permitted, but only below the high-water mark. All fires must be extinguished and dispersed. Use this link to learn best campfire practices to maximize safety and minimize impact.

Hunting 

Hunting is allowed on all DCC-owned properties. To place or use observation blinds, tree stands, or trail cameras on properties owned by Downeast Coastal Conservancy, hunters must receive a permit from DCC. To request a permit, come to our office in person at 7 VIP Drive, Machias, or email info@downeastcoastalconservancy.org.

Trapping 

To trap on a DCC owned property an individual must get written consent from DCC. For inquiries or to request a permission to trap come to our office in person at 6 Colonial Way Machias, or email info@downeastcoastalconservancy.org.

Foraging and Collecting Live Plants 

Foraging for wild edibles and medicinal plants for personal use is permitted on all DCC owned properties.
