All We Need Is Love: Frogs & Toads

April 29, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Photo 1: Grey Tree Frog by Paul Powers

Maine’s Native Amphibians are seldom thought of but provide a vital role in the stability of our natural resources as an indicator species. Through a series of presentations Maine Master Naturalist Paul Powers explores the life cycles of amphibians, fun facts about amphibians, amphibian’s seasonal activities, the State Status on Maine’s native amphibians and what we can do to live in balance with our native amphibians.

What is the difference between a frog and a toad? How many different species does Maine have? Can toads really give you warts? Join Downeast Coastal Conservancy, on Wednesday, April 29th at 5pm, as we share part one of Paul’s presentation specifically focused on Maine’s toads and frogs as a Zoom Presentation.

Photo 2: American Toad by Paul Powers

Paul grew up in Pennsylvania and has always been captivated by nature and wildlife. He has been a wildlife photographer for the past 20 years which has taken him to many places and allowed him to become involved in many environmental projects. Paul uses his photography as an educational tool and donates many of his works to centers and institutions to promote preservation of our wildlife and raise funds for rehabilitation. He has also furthered his education by becoming certified as an Environmental Educator and a Maine Master Naturalist. Paul now resides in Maine with his wife and three dogs and travels the state working with organizations to promote living in harmony with our wildlife.

By conserving lands, DCC is helping to protect Maine’s amphibians and reptiles. It is vital to preserve not only vernal pools but also the surrounding uplands where these vernal pool breeding species spend the remainder of their lifetime. DCC’s guiding mission is to conserve lands that significantly benefit the public by protecting the ecological, recreational, and cultural resources that make Downeast Maine special. It is also part of our mission to provide environmental education to youth and members of the public to help them become stewards of the land and create a lasting legacy for the benefit of all future generations. For more information on any of the ways you can help mentioned during the presentation please reach out to DCC at info@downeastcoastalconservancy.org.
