We’ll hunt for insects in the blooming flora\, searching for dragonflies\, butterflies\, and others! Nets will be provided for a bit of catch and release as we work to identify our new friends. DESCRIPTION:Calling all Downeast youth ages 7-9! Join us for a February Vacation Winter Snow Camp! Each day will be full of outdoor activities\, games\, and exciting hands on learning opportunities. \nProgram dates: Monday\, February 20th to Thursday Feb 23rd\, 2022 \nActivities include:\n• Forest Ecology\n• Wildlife tracking\n• Winter Crafts\n• Games\n• Storytime\n• Snow forts and sledding \nLocation/Time: The program is held at Middle River Park\, Machias and runs Monday\, February 20th to Thursday Feb 23rd\, 2022. Drop off is from 8:30am-9am. Pick up is from 12-12:30pm each day. \nCamp is free! But registration is required. Signups will be limited to the first 10 participants that register (Ages 7-9). Camp is now full\, please sign up for the waitlist incase a participant withdraws. \nSign up for the waitlist here!\nParticipants should dress warmly and plan to be outdoors each day for the entire time period. DESCRIPTION:Please join us and Cobscook Institute for a free afternoon of basic map and compass work. During this class\, two registered Maine guides will help you understand the information provided on your map\, the proper use of your compass\, and how to put the two together. You’ll learn about magnetic north\, true north\, and magnetic variation (declination). After covering these fundamentals\, you’ll get time to practice taking a bearing from the map so that you can make sense of your position and plan a route. January 1st – February 28th\nA Scavenger Hunt for All Ages\nThis scavenger hunt is a collaboration from Downeast Lakes Land Trust (DLLT) and Downeast Coastal Conservancy (DCC) in conjunction with organizations and businesses all over Washington County. Get ready for a county-wide challenge full of outdoor winter fun! \nGetting Started\n\nDownload the Goose Chase app on any smart phone or tablet device.\nSearch for “Washington County’s Outdoor Winter Challenge!”\nCreate a team of 1-5 people.\n\nHave fun completing the missions as a group before winter is over. It is never too early to register your team! Top ranked teams will receive a prize pack of goodies from DLLT and DCC AND be entered into a drawing for a chance to win our grand prize: LL Bean Wood Toboggin. \nFor more information\, help with the app\, or game questions please call: Sarah at DLLT: (207) 796-2100 or Cathy at DCC: (207) 255-4500. \nGame Play and Rules\nBefore getting started\, there are a few things we want to mention. \n\nConsider safety at all times when completing missions. Previous photos are not allowed to be entered into missions.\nDo not sabotage other teams or cheat in any way.\nBe respectful of all businesses\, land marks\, and natural areas that you visit. DESCRIPTION:How did Klondike Mountain get its name? In 1897\, two strangers checked into the Lubec Inn looking for a way to make a quick buck. They claimed that they could extract gold from seawater! Come learn this unique story and other facts regarding the history of Klondike Mountain including details about a historic family farm and remnants of a man-made dam seen from the summit overlook. \nThis history walk at Klondike Mountain will be led by DCC Board Vice President Robin Pinto.
