SUMMARY:Full Moon Hike
DESCRIPTION:Due to the weather this event was moved from Sunday to Monday the 28th. \nJoin us for a spectacular evening hike at Pigeon Hill Preserve in Steuben. We’ll hike up to the summit\, watch the sunset to the west\, then just minutes later turn to watch the full the moon rise over the water to the east. Pack a picnic dinner if you like and meet new friends by the light of the full moon. Please refrain from bringing glass containers on the hike. Hikers should also be prepared with flashlights for their hike down the hill. Dress for the weather\, wear appropriate footwear and don’t forget the bug repellent. \nPigeon Hill is the highest coastal property in Washington County with a summit elevation of 317ft. The 1.2 mile trail system consists of a figure-eight loop that allows hikers to reach the summit and return to the parking area without retracing their steps. \nThe Pigeon Hill Preserve parking area is located 4.5 miles south of Route 1 on Pigeon Hill Road in Steuben. \nOutdoor programs are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather\, updates will be posted here and on social media. DESCRIPTION:Putting in at the Playhouse Lane Boat Landing in Whiting\, we’ll paddle through the winding marshes and wetlands along the Orange River (approx. 2 miles) to the Estey Mountain Trailhead. Then we’ll hike to the mountaintop’s vista overlooking the entire Orange River Conservation Area\, before paddling back the river to the landing. Drop off is from 8:30am-9am. Pick up is from 12-12:30pm each day. \nCamp is free! But registration is required. Signups will be limited to the first 10 participants that register (Ages 7-9). It is never too early to register your team! DESCRIPTION:How did Klondike Mountain get its name? In 1897\, two strangers checked into the Lubec Inn looking for a way to make a quick buck. They claimed that they could extract gold from seawater! Come learn this unique story and other facts regarding the history of Klondike Mountain including details about a historic family farm and remnants of a man-made dam seen from the summit overlook. \nThis history walk at Klondike Mountain will be led by DCC Board Vice President Robin Pinto. The event will be approximately 1.5 hours in length.
