SUMMARY:Winter Family Fun Day
DESCRIPTION:Winter Family Fun Day returns to Middle River Park on Saturday\, February 21st\, 2026. The classic kids’ custom cardboard sled race returns. Build a sled and bring it with you for an attempt to win one of two prizes: furthest distance and best design (voted on at the event). But that is not all\, the day will begin with the Bold Coast Runners Frosty Feet Snowshoe Run\, with a 5k and 1-mile option. The races will occur on the trails at Middle River Park starting at 10 am. That will be followed by the Cobscook Shores outdoor gear trailer opening up and fitting youth with cross-country skis and snowshoes. If you have to wait for a chance to get fitted\, you can check out the interactive tables from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and 4-H\, or warm up by the campfire with free hot dogs and s’mores. Then\, at 12\, the cardboard sled races will commence\, and once they are finished\, prizes will be distributed. \nCardboard Sled Race Rules \n\nSled must be made of cardboard. Cardboard that is treated with a plastic-y surface is allowed.\nBottom of sled touching the snow must be cardboard. Duct-taping cardboard together on the bottom is allowed but you cannot coat the entire bottom of the sled with duct tape\, plastic\, or any other material.\nPainting\, drawing on\, or adding items to the sled with duct tape or glue for visual purposes is allowed.\nSleds and participants can register at the Winter Family Fun Day event.\nSleds will start from the same point\, one at a time\, going down the hill\, receiving a standing push from a family member/friend. The furthest distance will continue to be marked as the event progresses.\nThe best design will be voted on by event workers/volunteers.\nAnyone can make a cardboard sled and take it down the hill\, but only youth are open to winning for furthest distance or best design.\nRemember\, this is FUN!\n\nClick here to sign up for the Frosty Feet Snowshoe Run \nQuestions? Contact: matt@downeastcoastalconservancy.org or call 207-255-4500.
